Damon Salvatore is known as the dangerous, charming, evil brother in The Vampire Diaries. He has gone through so much emotional damage which makes him who he is. But before you say anything, you must know his story first.Human Life/1864:
Damon returning from the Civil War as a Confederate soldier was the real Damon. Fun, sweet, daring, and he dearly loved his brother, Stefan. Things were great, even when they met Katherine. But once Damon returned home, he realized he wasn't the only one who wanted Katherine. This began a rivalry between both brothers that would only turn worse. He trusted Stefan to not tell their father, Giuseppe Salvatore, that Katherine was a vampire. But once Stefan broke his trust, things changed. Damon felt he was betrayed and this wasn't the beginning of lies and betrayal.
Vampire Life:
In present day Mystic Falls, Damon is back for two things. Revenge and Elena. Desperately trying to get Katherine from the tomb in Season 1, Damon later realizes he no longer loves Katherine, but he loves Elena. His love for Elena is real, more then he loves Katherine it seems. He's selfless when it comes to Elena, and she makes him a better person. She helps him find his true self, which is good for everyone except, Stefan, of course. Damon has probably the most powerful presence in the show. His sense of humor makes every girl fall for him and when he's sweet and kind, even Elena finds herself falling for him.
